Lightweight Alternative to Glass

Polycarbonate is considerably lighter and easier to handle than traditional glass, making it particularly useful for timber-supported roofs and DIY installations.

Installing 10mm Twin Wall Polycarbonate

The internal channels of multiwall polycarbonate should always run down the direction of the roof slope. This allows any condensation within the sheet structure to drain correctly.

The sheet ends should be finished using suitable sealing and breather tapes together with compatible end closures. Correct glazing bars should be used between sheets, and sufficient allowance must be made for thermal expansion and contraction.

Clear, Bronze or Opal Polycarbonate?

Clear polycarbonate is the best option where allowing plenty of natural daylight beneath the roof is the main priority.

For south-facing or particularly sunny roofs, Bronze or Opal polycarbonate may be worth considering where reducing glare and solar brightness is important.
