What are Fascias?
The fascia board can be found at the point where the roof meets the outer walls of the house and is often called the roofline.
Unfortunately, not many people are familiar with these terms, so we thought you might appreciate a few words of explanation.
Fascia
The fascia board is the main long, straight board which runs along the lower edge of the roof. The fascia usually does all the work of supporting the lower edge of the bottom row of tiles and is fixed directly to the lower ends of the roof trusses. Rainwater gutter systems are attached to the fascia.
Bargeboard
This is the board that is used on the gable end of a house. The gable end has transformed over the years and now there are several shapes.
Soffit
Tucked away underneath the fascia is where you will find the Soffit board. It is usually the most visible board that you see from the street. To allow air flow to the roof area the soffit board can be ventilated. Without adequate ventilation, condensation will form in the roof void increasing the risk of timber decay.
Boxend
The Box End is attached to the end of the run and offers a neat finish to the fascia and soffits.
