Stelmax 1985 PVC Adhesive 135g

Stelmax 1985 Adhesive is a high-strength PVC resin and solvent-based adhesive designed for bonding rigid and plasticised PVC and ABS. It is widely used within the window and building products industry where a strong, permanent and maintenance-free bond is required.

Particularly useful where bonding is only possible over small or narrow surface areas, Stelmax 1985 provides excellent adhesion and cures to form a strong joint with weathering, UV and chemical resistance comparable to good-quality rigid PVC.

Stelmax 1985 is primarily available in Clear and White, making it suitable for a wide range of PVC fabrication and repair applications.

Key Features

  • High-Strength PVC Adhesive – Creates strong, permanent and maintenance-free joints.
  • Suitable for PVC & ABS – Bonds both rigid and plasticised PVC as well as ABS.
  • Ideal for Narrow Bonding Areas – Particularly suitable where only a small bonding surface is available.
  • Excellent Weather Resistance – Cured adhesive provides resistance to weathering and UV exposure.
  • Chemical Resistant – Provides durable performance in demanding applications.
  • Available in Clear or White – Choose the finish appropriate for your application.
  • 135g Tube – Convenient format for workshop, fabrication and maintenance applications.
  • For Bonding Applications – Designed as an adhesive rather than a gap-filling sealant.

Typical Applications

Stelmax 1985 Adhesive is widely used within the window and PVC fabrication industry and is suitable for applications where PVC or ABS components need to be securely bonded.

  • uPVC window fabrication.
  • uPVC door fabrication.
  • Bonding PVC attachments and components.
  • Rigid PVC components.
  • Plasticised PVC.
  • ABS components.
  • Maintenance and repair applications.
  • Small and narrow bonding surfaces.

Important Product Information

Stelmax 1985 is an adhesive and is not a gap-filling product. It does not provide the gap-filling properties associated with Stelmax gap-filling sealants and should not be selected where a gap-filling sealant is required.

The product should also not be used in conjunction with activators.

Because substrates and applications vary considerably, the user is responsible for ensuring that Stelmax 1985 is suitable for the intended application and compatible with all materials being bonded.

Directions for Use

  1. Prepare the surfaces – Ensure all surfaces are clean and completely dry.
  2. Clean the bonding area – Stelmax PVC Ultraclean or Thinners & Cleaning Fluid can be used to prepare the surfaces.
  3. Prepare the tube – Remove the cap from the 135g tube, invert the tube and pierce the sealed membrane.
  4. Fit the nozzle – Attach the tapered applicator nozzle and trim the nozzle to the required aperture using a sharp knife.
  5. Apply the adhesive – Apply a continuous, thin film to one surface only.
  6. Join the surfaces – Bring the two surfaces together immediately after application.
  7. Maintain pressure – Keep the joint under light pressure. Flexible materials may require pressure for several seconds, while rigid PVC may require several minutes.
  8. Remove excess adhesive – Clean away excess material immediately using Stelmax PVC Ultraclean or Thinners & Cleaning Fluid.

The adhesive bonds almost immediately on contact, although curing time will depend on the amount applied, temperature and weather conditions at the time of application.

Storage

  • Keep the container tightly closed when not in use.
  • Store at moderate room temperature.
  • Keep away from sources of ignition, sparks and flames.
  • Keep away from oxidising agents.
  • Do not smoke when handling or using the product.

After use, seal the end of the applicator nozzle with polythene or replace the tube cap to help retain the product in usable condition.

Safety Information

Stelmax 1985 contains tetrahydrofuran (THF) and is a highly flammable solvent-based adhesive. It must be used with suitable ventilation and appropriate precautions.

  • Highly Flammable – Keep away from heat, sparks, flames and other ignition sources.
  • Vapour Hazard – Avoid breathing vapour and ensure good ventilation during use.
  • Eye Irritant – Avoid contact with eyes and wear suitable protective goggles where there is a risk of splashing.
  • Skin Protection – Wear suitable solvent-resistant gloves, such as neoprene or nitrile rubber.
  • Do Not Empty Into Drains – Prevent the product from entering drains or watercourses.
  • Static Discharge – Take appropriate precautions against static ignition.

First Aid Information

Eye Contact: Irrigate immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.

Skin Contact: Remove excess material and wash thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation or other symptoms occur.

Inhalation: Move to fresh air if affected by vapour. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
