Large Glass Rooflight for Kitchen Extensions
The 1.5m x 3m glass rooflight provides a large area of overhead glazing capable of introducing natural daylight into the centre of substantial extensions and open-plan rooms.
It is particularly useful where an extension projects away from the original rear wall of the property and additional overhead daylight is required to help illuminate the new living space.
Typical applications include:
- Large kitchen extensions
- Kitchen-diners
- Open-plan living spaces
- Dining rooms
- Garden rooms
- Rear extensions
- Flat roof extensions
- Contemporary renovations
- New-build properties
- Commercial buildings
1500mm x 3000mm Rooflight for Open-Plan Living
At the maximum dimensions, a 1500mm x 3000mm rooflight provides approximately 4.5 square metres of internal rooflight area, creating an impressive glazed feature within a flat roof.
The 3 metre length makes this size particularly suitable above larger kitchen islands, dining areas and open-plan spaces where a smaller rooflight may not provide the scale required for the room.
Glass Rooflight Above a Large Kitchen Island
Positioning a large glass rooflight above a kitchen island can introduce natural daylight directly into one of the main working and social areas of a modern kitchen.
Because the rooflight is made to measure, its proportions can be selected to complement the kitchen layout, island and surrounding roof structure.
Important Rooflight Measuring Information
The dimensions entered when ordering are the internal frame measurements.
The surrounding profiles are approximately 70mm wide. Allowing approximately 70mm on each side means the external frame measurement is approximately 140mm greater than the internal frame measurement in both directions.
1500mm x 3000mm Rooflight Size Example
A rooflight ordered at the maximum 1500mm x 3000mm internal frame size would have approximate frame dimensions of:
- Internal Frame: 1500mm x 3000mm
- Approx. External Frame: 1640mm x 3140mm
Optional Welded Cill Dimensions
Where welded cills are selected, additional allowance must be made when calculating the total space required for the rooflight.
Where the cill extends approximately 160mm from each side of the internal frame measurement, a maximum-size rooflight would have approximate overall cill dimensions of:
- Internal Frame: 1500mm x 3000mm
- Approx. Overall Cill: 1820mm x 3320mm
Please carefully check the internal frame, external frame and overall cill dimensions before constructing the roof opening, kerb or supporting structure.
Low-E Toughened Glass Rooflight
The standard rooflight is supplied with Low-E toughened, argon-filled glass, combining natural daylight with safety and thermal performance.
The Low-E coating is designed to reduce heat transfer through the glazing, while argon gas within the sealed units further improves thermal performance.
Double or Triple Glazed Rooflight
Choose the glazing specification most appropriate for your project, with double and triple-glazed options available depending on the selected configuration.
- Low-E Toughened Glass
- Argon-Filled Sealed Units
- Double Glazing
- Triple Glazing
- Self-Cleaning Glass Upgrade
- Blue Tint Glass Upgrade
Self-Cleaning Glass for Large Rooflights
An optional self-cleaning glass upgrade can be particularly useful with a rooflight of this size, where routine access to the external surface of the glazing may be difficult.
This option can help reduce the amount of routine cleaning required and is worth considering for rooflights positioned above large extensions and other difficult-to-access areas.
Blue Tint Glass Option
Blue tint glass is also available where an alternative appearance to standard clear roof glazing is preferred.
Select the required glass specification when configuring your made-to-measure rooflight.
Durable Roof Glazing Bar System
The rooflight uses a strong roof glazing bar system designed to securely support the glass and provide a durable finished roof structure.
The system allows the rooflight to be manufactured specifically for the required dimensions while providing the support necessary for the selected glazing configuration.
Choice of Rooflight Frame Colours
Select from a range of profile and roof bar finishes to coordinate the rooflight with the surrounding property:
- White
- Rosewood
- Mahogany
- Light Oak
Aluminium roof bars are also available in selected finishes including Light Oak, Mahogany and Rosewood.
Optional Hunter Regency Guttering
An optional Hunter Regency guttering package can be supplied where rainwater collection is required around the rooflight.
Depending on the selected configuration, the package can include guttering, downpipes, spigots, brackets and the appropriate connecting components.
Optional Cresting and Finials
Decorative cresting and finials can be added where a more traditional appearance is required.
Alternatively, the rooflight can be supplied without decorative cresting for a cleaner and more contemporary appearance.
Flat-Packed or Part-Assembled Rooflight
Choose the assembly option most appropriate for your installation:
- Flat-Packed: Supplied ready for assembly on site.
- Pre-Assembled to Glazing Stage: The main structure is assembled before delivery, with the glass and finishing trims installed on site.
Suitable assistance will be required for unloading the pre-assembled option. Please consider the size of the rooflight, delivery access and the number of people required to safely handle the structure.
Large Rooflight for Contemporary Extensions
The proportions of this 1.5m x 3m rooflight make it particularly suitable for larger contemporary extensions where the roof glazing is intended to become a major architectural feature.
It can be positioned centrally within the flat roof or aligned with important features below, such as a kitchen island, dining table or open-plan seating area.
Rooflight for Garden Rooms and Large Flat Roofs
The rooflight is also suitable for garden rooms, large flat roofs and commercial spaces where substantial overhead glazing is required without installing a completely glazed roof.
Made-to-measure manufacture provides flexibility when coordinating the rooflight with structural openings and the overall design of the building.

Ordering Your 1.5m x 3m Glass Rooflight
Enter the required internal frame dimensions and select the glazing, frame colour and optional extras required for your project.
Because every rooflight is manufactured specifically for your order, please carefully check all dimensions and configuration options before ordering and before constructing the supporting roof opening or kerb.
Installation and Weatherproofing
Roof felt, flashing and surrounding weatherproofing should be correctly completed as part of the installation.
The rooflight must be properly integrated with the supporting structure and surrounding flat roof system to provide a secure and weather-resistant finished installation.
